It won't be long before Old Man Winter will be blowing in snow flurries! Be prepared and protect your back when shoveling.
Here are some great tips to help!
- Bend at the knees, not the hips.
- Keep your elbows close to your body as you lift the snow.
- It's always best to lift lighter loads then large heavy ones that can strain your muscles.
- Keep your chin neutral. Bending your head forward can create tension in your upper back and neck and cause shoulder, back and neck discomfort.
- Stop and take a stretch break: Lift the shovel over your head, stretch side to side, and then stretch the legs out. Begin shoveling again.
