SELF LOVE - What is it? Why is it important?

Let's face it - we're half way through 2020 and it's been a rough one. Millions of Americans are out of work due to the Coronavirus, there is international civil unrest from police brutality, and to add fuel to the fire - we've got Killer Hornets that have the potential to wipe out our already struggling bee population.

With all the external stresses mounting upon us daily, how do we re-center, re-focus, and not only get through this mess, but also thrive in it.

One answer. Two words. SELF LOVE

WHAT IS SELF LOVE?

It's probably a term you've heard before; when most people think of self love, they think of a "treat-yo-self" day full of retail therapy and a visit to the spa. Sure, these activities definitely ease the tension we so often feel - but we don't always need to look to external sources for relief. We can seek and provide our self love internally as well.

Self love is practiced when you make a "deposit" into the bank of health. Whether it's exercising daily, meditating in the morning, or even something as simple as preparing a healthy meal - you're practicing self love. Living a healthy lifestyle is actually the highest form of self love you can practice!

WHY SELF LOVE IS IMPORTANT?

When you hold yourself in high esteem, you’re more likely to choose things that nurture your well-being and serve you well. For the most part - humans want three things. To be happy, to be healthy, and to be wealthy. The last one we unfortunately can't help you with. Health however, is a choice. It's a choice of a piece of fruit over a doughnut for breakfast; it's a choice to meditate and self reflect over mindless scrolling on social media; it's a choice to improve yourself by 1% every day. You express your love for yourself by doing things that help you to show up in life as the best version of you.

The reason it's important is because like it or not, you get one shot at it. We are all creatures on this giant rock speeding through space, and each and every one of us only gets one space suit.

The best thing you can do to your body is to love it.  In return your body will love you by giving you years of happiness and health! So, no matter where you are, no matter what you're doing today - take five or 10 minutes to practice some self love, and get on track to be the best version of yourself that you can be.
