Stretch Your Way to Health with Spinal Decompression
If you have chronic pain in your neck or back from a bulging disc or degenerative spinal condition, or the nerve tingling and limb weakness characteristic of sciatica, you may be wondering if surgery remains the only viable solution for your problem. While some cases do indeed call for surgical intervention, many of our patients at Wards Corner Chiropractic have found relief from their symptoms through a gentle, non-invasive technology known as spinal decompression.
How does this technique work? The patient simply lies down on a specially designed motorized table. Our Norfolk chiropractor, Dr. Robinson, secures the patient to the table and then applies tiny, precisely-monitored degrees of mechanical traction. You do not feel any pain during this procedure -- in fact, you may feel an astonishing absence of the pain you have suffered from for months or years, even in the early sessions. We alternate the traction with rest periods, with a typical session lasting 45 minutes or less. To give your body a chance to adjust and proceed with its own healing processes, we space the treatment sessions out over several weeks.
Chiropractic Relief for Back Pain and Other Problems
The decompression process brings relief in several ways. If you have a painfully bulging disc, for example, the traction creates a mild vacuum pressure in your spinal column. This vacuum pressure pulls the displaced disc back into position while allowing healing nutrients and oxygen to make repairs. As the disc moves back into its correct position, it no longer presses against nearby nerves, relieving that annoying numbness or tingling. Not only do you experience relief from your discomfort, but you also regain flexibility and range of motion. In other words, you get your life back.
Not everyone will prove an ideal candidate for this procedure, but if you would like to find out more about it, contact our office today. We want to help you stand tall again!
