Our Norfolk chiropractor urges people to try these five back pain prevention tips because they are easy and effective. If your back or neck pain does not abate, however, please come in for chiropractic care.

Norfolk chiropractor provides tip for proper sitting posture1. Lift Right-lifting something heavy the wrong way is a recipe for back pain. Hold the heavy object close to your body and lift with your legs. Keep your abs tight and your back straight.

2. Sit Right-Slouching at your desk can cause pain in your back, neck, wrists, or arms. Get a chair with lumbar support and sit straight up and back into it. Keep feet firmly planted with your neck in a neutral position by looking forward.

3. Sleep Right-A good night's sleep can be ruined by backache from sleeping on a too-soft or too-hard mattress. Find one that keeps your spine in a comfortable, neutral position while sleeping, along with a pillow that keeps your neck properly aligned. Sleeping with a pillow between your knees can also take stress off of your back.

4. Exercise-Fitness is great for the whole body. Core exercises to strengthen the abs and back are great for preventing backache. Just make sure to use proper form and warm up before exercising to prevent injuries. Ask Dr. Brad Robinson to prescribe some exercises and to demonstrate proper form.

5. Lose Weight-Excess weight can stress the muscles supporting your spine, which pulls it out of position and pinches nerves. We can help you find the right nutritional balance to help your body shed unwanted pounds to help your back and your whole life.
