The Road to Wellness
If you consider healthy living a remote goal, accessible only to athletes or health fanatics, you may be surprised to learn just how simple wellness can be. Here are five basic steps you can take to get healthy and stay that way:
1. Eat right. A diet of nothing but fatty, sugary or highly processed foods will fill you up with empty carbohydrates, causing your blood sugar to yo-yo and your waistline to expand. Go easy on the salt too, since excessive sodium can contribute to hypertension. Get plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables for their fiber, antioxidant and water content.
2. Exercise. Regular exercise tones your muscles, which in turn can help you maintain proper posture for fewer spinal misalignments and joint problems. Your muscles also become more flexible and less vulnerable to sprains and strains. Exercise helps you control your weight, builds cardiovascular health, and boosts your ability to fight off diseases.
3. Don’t smoke. Apart from the cancer risk, smoking can raise your blood pressure, deplete blood oxygen levels, impair your immune function and leave you with a chronic cough.
4. Relax. Stress and tension, held in the body on a regular basis, can lead to muscle strain, headaches, high blood pressure and weakened disease resistance. Massage, spinal adjustments, meditation, and a full night’s sleep can all help to relax body and mind.
5. See your chiropractor! Do not wait until you have neck pain, back pain or some other health issue before visiting our Norfolk chiropractor, Dr. Brad Robinson. Regular spinal evaluation and adjustment is an important part of preventative care. We can catch little problems before they turn into big ones to ensure a healthy spine.
